
Andrew Goldstein - Program Development Coordinator
Andrew is a high school Social Studies and ESL/Bilingual-Spanish teacher with 13 years of teaching experience. He has taught at Lynwood High School in inner city Los Angeles, the University of California in Los Angeles, Hawera High in New Zealand, and for the past seven years at South Salem High School in Salem, Oregon.Andrew is a co-founder of The 21st Century Schoolhouse organization and co-developer of the Community Schoolhouse, an alternative public high school opening in Salem, Oregon in September 2000.
Andrew's strengths in the area of high standards-based schooling are performance assessments, integrated and contextual learning, and teaching to all students - particularly at-risk youth. In the past six years he has co-created a highly successful integrated course in Environmental Issues that focuses on the core curricular areas of science, government and economics. In addition, he has co-developed an educational framework that has been replicated on an international level.
Andrew is the recipient of three prestigious teaching fellowships: the Madeline Hunter Fellowship, the SciMat Fellowship, and the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship. In addition, he has been awarded two professorships and numerous educational and corporate support grants.
