Yoshiaki Oishi - Japan Director

Mr. Oishi has been involved in high school education for over 30 years. It all started in University where, as an American Literature major, Mr. Oishi enjoyed American authors like Ernest Hemingway and Francis Scott Fitzgerald. In 1967, Mr. Oishi began teaching English in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. During this time he has served at many high schools.

He has taught at Nyuzen, Toyama Hokubu, and Toyama Chubu high schools. Mr. Oishi has, at various times in his career, served as Homeroom Teacher, Teacher Supervisor, Career Guidance Chief, Director of Teaching Affairs, and Vice Principal. In addition to these posts, he coached his soccer team to championship victories in the 1985 and 1987 Inter High School Soccer Competitions and taught a student who represented Japan in the International Mathematical Olympics.

In 1998, Mr. Oishi was transferred to Toyama Prefecture's Education Centre. There he acted in his capacity as Chief Education Expert to plan and carry out continuing education programs for high school teachers. Beginning in 1999, Mr. Oishi became the Principal of Daimon High School, located in Daimon town, Toyama Prefecture, Japan. At this time he took over the educational principles of his predecessor and committed himself to educating students in three main areas: Globalization, Environmental Protection, and Information Technology. This educational program prepares students for the lurking problems of an increasingly internationalized 21st century.

Mr. Oishi is currently spearheading preparations for the third biennial International Youth Environmental Summit in Toyama in 2001. It is Mr. Oishi's sincerest wish that the summit be a great success and benefit not only the various schools attending and our environment, but also further the efforts of international cooperation.
