CPR FOR THE EARTH "We are confronted with insurmountable opportunities" - Pogo  

David Brower, a highly respected environmentalist and mountain climber was named by the New York Times as the most effective conservation activist in the world. Brower views the earth as a thriving organism that can be saved and protected. His solution and challenge are known as CPR for the Earth (Conservation, Preservation, Restoration). He firmly believes that if all people take up the challenge to perform CPR on the earth; there will be hope and security for the future generations who inherit the planet.

After reading Brower's plan, participating in class discussions and brainstorming ideas in your topic groups, select an action(s) that your group can take to conduct CPR in your own community. As a group, you must complete the following steps:

 

STEP #1   THE ACTION:         DUE: JANUARY 31, 1998

In no more than one typed page, complete the following:

A) state the name of your project
B) names of the people who are participating
C) explain the short term and long term goals of your project
D) explain how your action is related CPR
 

STEP #2   THE PLAN:            DUE: FEBRUARY 22, 1998

In no more than two typed pages, complete the following:

A) Describe how your group will meet the stated goal
B) What organizations will you be contacting and (or) working with?
C) Describe both the group and individual responsibilities
D) Provide a timeline for reaching your goals
 

STEP #3   THE OUTCOME:     DUE: JUNE 3, 1998

In no more than three typed pages, answer the following questions:

A) Was the project a success? Did you meet your goals? (explain)
B) What problems did you encounter? How did you deal with them?
C) How would Brower view the result of your project?
D) How will your project and efforts be sustained after you complete
Environmental Issues?

Upon completing step three, turn in all assigned aspects of your project in one packet. Be creative and try to supplement your information with visuals.
