The City Kids Scholarship is for students interested in agriculture and would like to experience rural life.
During second term, I applied for the City Kids Scholarship. To my amazement my application had been accepted. I had been told that I would stay with the host family, Allan and Sharon Tuckett and kids and attend the District High School. Well you can imagine how nervous you can get going to live with a family you have never met before.
While I was down there I had to complete an agricultural assignment of my choice. I chose to do my assignment on parrot damage. It is about how the Port Lincoln Ringneck (Twenty-Eight) parrot has been killing the Xanthorrhoea Preissii (Blackboy). It has been predicted that at the rate these parrots are killing the Blackboy there will be no more Blackboys left in the Boyup Brook Shire in 3 years.
I personally had a lot of fun on this program. I made a lot of new friends and learnt a lot of new information that will help me in the future. If I had a chance I would definately do it again. It was a great experience and was well worth it. I suggest it to anyone who gets the chance. It is simple and easy and will help you heaps.
I would like to give a big Thank You to the City Kids Programme for the experience and Boyup Brook District High School for accepting me into the school for the short time. I would also like to say thank you to Mrs. Gee and Mrs. Ward for helping me get the City Kids Scholarship and for also helping me get into the 1999 Murdoch University Western Australia Science Summer School. Thank you for the experience.
