Most Israelis have been to Eilat and most of them have found the time for scuba diving, diving or swimming in the Red Sea. But not all Israelis think about the damage that is caused to the corals.
Two main factors that cause the corals to die are sea pollution and tourism.
The many ships that dock there, not only in the Israeli bay, but also in the Egyptian bay and the Jordanian bay, cause sea pollution in Eilat. The ships that come into the bay pollute the sea with oil and all their sewage. The oil clings to the corals and suffocates them.
Tourism is very developed in Eilat. many tourists like to take a dip in Eilat's wonderful water. These tourists do not understand that corals are animals and not some sort of sea plant. They step on the corals, break and kill them.
How can this problem be solved? We are not experts on this subject, but bringing this problem to the awareness of the public will for one stop most of Eilat's toursits from stepping on the corals and secondly, using tugboats that will pull the boats into the bay could reduce the amount of oil spilt into the sea.
