The EGG

Editorial

The first issue of EGG. The Environmental Global Gazette is finally out.

Since September, my eleventh grade English class and I, faculty editor, have been busily working on and coordinating this global project. We began by introducing ourselves and getting acquainted with our global classmates and faculty members. The next step was to decide upon a common topic for our magazine and spread the word in cyberspace to all the participating schools. We thought water pollution, and especially sea pollution, a subject relevant to us all. In addition, we decided that the magazine should provide an opportunity to get to know one another and learn about our different countries and cultures.

It was exciting to receive articles and reports from around the world. Of course, my students also researched sea pollution and wrote articles about it and about their interests and hot issues in Israel today. Then we began the process of reading and editing all the material. This was a class project. It was a great experience for us all. The last step is to put up all the edited work onto the internet and make it accessible to everyone.

I would like to thank all those faculty members and students of the 21st Century School House who worked hard and made this first issue a reality. I would like to especially thank Molly Kellar and Andrew Goldstein in the U.S. and David Lloyd here in Israel for coordinating this joint effort. A big hand goes to my English class for being student coordinators and editors. Finally, without 11th grade Israeli pupil Shiran
Sorek this gazette would not be out. Thank you.

And thanks to all of you. I look forward to continuing correspondence as we prepare for the next issue of EGG.
