Helpful Nations
There are huge differences between nations all over the world. Some of these differences can cause hatred, war, and violence that is painful for everyone. Then, ironically, when a natural disaster occurs (like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, famines, or epidemics of disease), suddenly, nations all over the world, even ones not typically on friendly terms with the country in need, offer their help. The countries help each other by all means possible. Even a small country, like Israel, has their methods of helping, whether it be by sending medical aid, troops, food, or just toys to cheer up the children.
There is no logical explanation for this attitude, but such a reaction is most likely caused by the thought that a similar natural disaster could occur in any other country. When we are in trouble, it comforts us to know that there will be someone who will help us. That is probably the reason we feel the need to help and "rescue" other countries. It is relieving to have someone who will assist us if we should fall prey to nature.
Helping other countries may also be a way of reconciliation with countries that we have had negative relationships with in the past. We open up the chance for a fresh start with the ailing country by showing what a loyal and helpful friend our country can be. I hope that every country, big or small, has someone to depend on in case they fall prey to a natural disaster.
