In 1997 Alcoa Kwinana became the first company in Australia and first manufacturing operation in the world to achieve certification to the international environmental standard, ISO 14001.B
In 1998 Alcoa Kwinana won the inaugural Keep Australia Beautiful Perth Action Awards for Perth's Best Large Industry through its work in waste minimisation (recycling), energy and water conservation, beautification, air and water pollution control, and community education and involvement.
In December 1998, Alcoa Kwinana was awarded Western Australia's inaugural Best Practice Environmental Licence by the Department of Environmental Protection.
At Kwinana, Alcoa has combined these environmental accolades with their commitment to education and young people in the local community.
Supporting the community's young people in their learning endeavours and promoting positive environmental stewardship are focal points for Alcoa Kwinana Refinery.
